Intelligence agencies have alerted BSF and Punjab Police about an infiltration threat from the Punjab borders in the wake of the tension across states over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

BSF and Punjab Police officers have stepped up vigil and combing operations along the Indo-Pak border following the alert.

Night patrolling has also been intensified in the border districts to keep an eye on anti-social elements. Intelligence sources said similar alerts have also been issued to Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat.

Out of the 3000-kilometre-long Indo-Pak border,550-kilometre border lies in Punjab. Punjab is already on red alert after the recovery of arms ammunition and narcotics from smugglers who are now using drones to fetch the consignments.

Patrolling the sensitive areas is not easy in winters following the chill and the foggy weather which makes visibility very poor.

Sources close to the Punjab Police said the Indo-Pak border in Punjab has become a soft target for terrorists following the heavy deployment of forces in Jammu and Kashmir side. Recovery of satellite phones from the terrorists and smugglers clearly show that these consignments were meant for the Jammu and Kashmir terrorists where mobile and Internet services have been suspended.
